Journals come in various sizes to cater to different preferences and purposes. In this short post we are going to show you the most common sizes you can find and which one can be better depending on your needs:
Pocket Size & A6: These journals are compact and easily portable, fitting comfortably in a pocket or a small bag.
Pocket journals are typically around 3.5 x 5.5 inches (8.9 x 14 cm) or smaller. While A6 ones are a little bit bigger (see the image below)
This journal size is often preferred for shorter entries, jotting down ideas, or maintaining a concise daily journaling practice.
- If you like traveling and having your journal always close this is a very comfortable option.
B6 Size: B6-sized journals are slightly smaller than A5, measuring around 4.9 x 6.9 inches (12.6 x 17.6 cm).
These journals are often favored by individuals who prefer a slightly larger writing area than pocket-sized journals but still want a compact and easily transportable journal.
They are well-suited for daily journaling, capturing personal thoughts, goal-tracking, creative writing, or even sketching if the pages allow for it.
- I would say that if you think that you are not going to write very long entries this is a good start. In fact, it is where I started and it felt right.
A5 & Standard/Classic Size: This size varies across different brands but typically ranges from 5 x 8 inches (13 x 20 cm) to 6 x 9 inches (15 x 23 cm). Many popular journal brands offer their journals in this size.
These journals are popular due to their convenient size
These journals are versatile and can accommodate various types of journaling, such as daily reflections, creative writing, goal-setting, or sketching.
They provide ample room for more substantial journal entries, expressive writing, or detailed drawings.
A4 Size: A4-sized journals are larger and provide more space for extensive writing, artwork, or detailed entries. They measure approximately 8.3 x 11.7 inches (21 x 29.7 cm) and are commonly used for art journals, sketchbooks, or project-specific journals.
These sizes are just indicative, you may come across other sizes as well. It’s important to note that the dimensions can vary slightly between different brands or manufacturers. When choosing a journal size, consider your preferences, portability needs, and the amount of space you desire for your journaling activities.
